The term ‘Allied Health’ is relatively new in Cambodia and professionals in the field make up a tiny proportion of the health workforce – there’s simply not enough specialised rehabilitation centers. Due to this lack of understanding of allied health, participants would need to clearly explain their treatments to the patient before service delivery.
Allied Health includes practices in physiotherapy, exercise science, occupational therapy, speech pathology, dietitian and psychology. This program collaborates with local rehabilitation facilities run by the government, as well as non-government organisations (NGO) to provide skills exchange that ensures better healthcare services to our communities.
Working alongside local experts is the best way to understand more about the Cambodian health system. It gives everyone involved the opportunity to share different ideas in terms of treatment, health education and exposes Cambodian health workers to a western system. This also allows patients extra time to engage with visiting university students and better understand their treatment while the local team focuses on the treatment plan. Research and collecting resources are always a huge extra benefit for the centers and their communities.
We currently run the placement in collaboration with government runs centers and NGO around Siem Reap and Battambang province – Cambodia
We facilitate University Placements year-round, and will tailor dates to meet your University’s requirements.
To ensure appropriate ratios for risk management and to meet our responsible placement guidelines, placement teams range from 8-15 students, 2-3 lecturer/facilitator/supervisor and 5-7 TravelED Asia team members.
Typically University Placement are from 3–4 weeks in length. The duration of your placement can be tailored to meet your course requirements.
We aim to give all students the opportunity to taste a lot of different Cambodian dishes and we try to vary the menu to cater to all tastes. Group must inform us of any dietary requirements prior to the trip so we can work with our meal providers.
We’ve arranged a locally owned hotel in the city for this trip, we ensure all rooms will be secure and comfortable with air-con, private bathrooms, linen, towels, swimming pool and restaurant.
